Winchester built this in 2005 as the big-bore member of the Short Magnum family, an 8mm cartridge meant to deliver serious energy from a short action for elk and larger game. It was a genuinely capable round that got caught in the collapse of the whole WSM concept and faded along with its siblings. Real capability undone by a dying platform. Good but doomed.

Loads run 180 to 220 grain in the scarce offerings that remain. A niche magnum priced for its rarity in small boxes. The short-magnum holdouts buy whenever it surfaces because it stocks thin.
