Born in the interesting year of 1968 this was the last cartridge old Roy Weatherby ever willed into existence. Mr. Weatherby was a true velocity freak, a California speed evangelist who believed no animal on God's earth could outrun mathematics. He took a belted .30-06-sized case, necked it down to 6mm, gave it that lunatic double-radius shoulder and produced the fastest commercial 6mm the world has ever seen. A title it still holds half a century of pretenders later. The numbers: 87 to 100 grains screaming out at 3,200 to 3,500 feet per second, a flat white line across the sage that varmints and pronghorns never hear coming. The catch and there is always a catch: only Weatherby ever built the rifles, only Weatherby loads the ammunition, and it burns barrels like a rented Cadillac at Daytona Bike Week.
