Smith & Wesson and Remington cooked up this bottlenecked revolver oddity in 1961 and it is one of the great magnificent failures in cartridge history. Case setback in the cylinder made the guns lock up at the worst moments and the whole idea quietly collapsed under its own cleverness. And yet the survivors adore it with the fierce loyalty people reserve for beautiful disasters.

The load runs a light 40 grain bullet in the rare boxes that still exist. Genuinely scarce and priced like the collector curiosity it became. Owners of the surviving revolvers pounce whenever fortune coughs up a box.
